Character of the Shiba Inu

The Shiba Inu is an ancient breed with DNA very close to that of the wolf. Therefore, it can be said that they are a breed that differs greatly from ordinary Western dogs in terms of personality.

There is a wide range of individual differences in personality, so there are many cases where this does not apply, but here are some general characteristics of the Shiba Inu.

Most Shiba Inus are shy, and are very wary of people and animals they see for the first time.

For that reason, they are very obedient to people and animals they have once placed their trust in.

They are also proud and stubborn, so training them may take some getting used to.

As a smart breed, they are more inclined to think for themselves rather than just follow what they are told.

This is because they have a history of confronting wild boars and bears as hunting dogs in ancient times.

Although they are small dogs, it is nearly impossible for them to fight these beasts by force, so they have hunted them with ingenuity.

They like exercise, especially with toys.

As mentioned above, they show absolute affection to those who trust them once. In terms of whether or not you can successfully keep a Shiba Inu, establishing a good trusting relationship is a very important factor.

This may sound difficult, but as long as you don't neglect care or training, and don't behave in a strangely humble way toward the dog, you should be fine.

And try to enjoy spending time with your dog every day. After all, that's the most important thing to build trust.
